ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It’s one of the most common neurodevelopmental diagnoses among children. ADHD typically presents in the following ways: Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: When ADHD affects attentiveness, children can find it difficult to finish tasks, follow directions, and stay focused. Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Alternatively, ADHD can present through hyperactivity and impulsivity. This means that your child may fidget, talk a lot, or need to move constantly. Combined Presentation: Your child may experience a mixture of these symptoms, involving both difficulty paying attention and trouble with impulse control. Can Playabilities diagnose my child?

We do not provide diagnostic evaluations. However, we’re happy to refer your family to providers in the area who can provide diagnostic evaluations. We can also supply paperwork and clinical observations to support your child’s evaluation.

How long does an ADHD treatment session last?

It depends on your child’s individual needs. In general, your child will meet with their therapist one to three times a week for one-hour sessions. Your therapy team will communicate an individualized treatment plan with you after the evaluation.

What role will I play in my child’s treatment?

We believe that parents are their child’s best teacher. We welcome your active participation throughout the therapy process. Some choose to stay for treatment and be an active participant and play partner. Others prefer to observe sessions. Especially during the early stages, sitting in can be an opportunity to learn about our therapy process. As your child progresses, you may also choose to take this time to relax in our waiting room or run errands. We’ll also give you some useful strategies for helping your child manage the challenges of ADHD at home. These can include: Creating organization systems Using visual schedules and implementing routines Using fidget toys and incorporating sensory strategies to promote regulation Creating opportunities for positive feedback Listening to calming music or using noise-cancelling headphones Creating an organized, calm, and safe spot in your home

I found playabilities on google while looking for services for my son. I had my concerns, however it wasn’t until his school told me that I needed to find additional help for him that I started looking for services. I tried contacting multiple larger organizations and was told that I would be put on a waiting list or could schedule an evaluation months out. Playabilities called me back on the same day that I contacted them and got us scheduled within a week. They explained to us how my son’s sensory processing differences can attribute to his bizarre behaviors, meltdowns, and feeding issues.
