CHILDREN’S SMALL-GROUP PROGRAM in Kansas City

Connect

Build Confidence, Connection, and Social Understanding

Children Ages 7-9

Connect is an 8-week small-group program designed to help children better understand themselves, navigate social situations with confidence, and develop skills to build meaningful peer connections in ways that feel authentic to them. Through discussion, guided activities, and real-life practice, children will explore their unique strengths, communication styles, and preferences while learning to recognize and appreciate the different qualities each person brings to social interactions.

Your child may benefit from Connect if they could use support with:

  • Understanding their unique strengths in social situations while appreciating different perspectives

  • Building confidence in social experiences

  • Initiating and navigating everyday interactions with peers

  • Communicating their thoughts, needs, and preferences in a way that works for them

  • Developing meaningful connections with others

Learn More About  Connect

A Different Approach to Social Connection

Every child has their own way of communicating, interacting, and building relationships. Connect celebrates these differences and creates opportunities for children to better understand themselves while exploring how others may experience social situations differently.

Rather than teaching a set of social rules or expecting children to interact in a particular way, Connect focuses on helping children recognize their strengths, understand their preferences, and develop flexible strategies for navigating everyday interactions. Through shared experiences and guided practice, children can build confidence participating in social situations in ways that feel authentic to them.

What to Expect

Connect is designed so that each session builds upon the last, giving children opportunities to develop new understanding and apply what they’ve learned throughout the program.

We’ll begin by helping children better understand themselves, including their unique strengths, communication styles, sensory preferences, and strategies that help them feel comfortable and confident. From there, we’ll explore how to use that self-awareness to navigate everyday social interactions, including situations that may feel challenging or overwhelming.

Each session includes:

  • Guided discussions that encourage self-discovery and understanding of others
  • Engaging, interactive activities that provide opportunities to practice with peers
  • Take-home resources for parents to support continued learning and carryover into everyday experiences

Our goal is for children to leave Connect with a stronger understanding of themselves, greater confidence navigating social situations, and strategies that support meaningful interactions in ways that feel authentic to them.
