Child practicing pre-writing skills for kindergarten during intensive program

KINDERGARTEN READINESS Intensive PROGRAM in Kansas City

Ready to Read & Write Intensive

Preparing for Kindergarten Starts Before the First Day

Designed for children entering Kindergarten next year

The year before kindergarten is filled with growth, new experiences, and exciting opportunities to learn. Some children benefit from extra support building the foundational pre-reading, pre-writing, communication, and classroom participation skills they’ll use every day at school.

Ready to Read & Write is a one-week kindergarten readiness intensive that combines occupational therapy and speech-language therapy to help children strengthen these foundational skills through individualized, play-based learning experiences.

Your child may benefit from the intensive if they could use support with:

  • Recognizing letters and connecting them to sounds

  • Writing, drawing, and fine motor skills

  • Communicating ideas, needs, and questions

  • Building confidence and independence for kindergarten

Why Work On These Skills Before Kindergarten?

Kindergarten readiness is about more than knowing letters and numbers. Research shows that the skills children bring to kindergarten, including language, executive functioning, attention, and social-emotional readiness, are important predictors of later academic and social success. Margaret Burchinal and colleagues followed more than 1,200 children and found that school-entry skills were significantly associated with outcomes throughout elementary school.1

Strong Foundations Support Future Learning

Additionally, research found that fine motor skills in kindergarten predict later reading achievement, highlighting the important connection between motor and literacy development. Sebastian Suggate and colleagues found this relationship remained even after accounting for factors such as IQ, attention, vocabulary, and phonological awareness.2
